Infra-humanization
My first research interest was on intergroup relations and the
infra-humanization of social outgroups. More specifically, with a group of international
colleagues we hypothesized and found that people subtly differentiate their ingroups from outgroups
by attributing to themselves more uniquely-human attributes than they attribute
to others. Doing so, they deprive others from essential qualities inherent to
the human nature. In this context, I familiarized myself with and got
interested in theories essentialism and entitativity.
Negotiation
More recently, I developed another line of research that focuses on
negotiation processes. The social psychology literature on negotiation, and
more specifically, intergroup negotiation is almost inexistent. This lack of
interest is surprising given the fact that, in many domains, groups have been
shown to work differently than individuals. My interest, therefore, is on
intergroup negotiation, intergroup emotions in negotiation, and the process of
negotiator’s choice in intergroup negotiation.
